Proprioceptive Tracks
What is the Proprioceptive system?
The Proprioceptive system is responsible for many things in the body, it allows our animal friends, as well as ourselves, to be aware of where their body is in space without having to observe their individual movements. It is also important in many everyday movements, such as walking up a step, jumping and overall balance.
How we use the equipment:
Alongside our therapies the Therapists here at Snowy’s will often use equipment to further aid recovery through muscle and proprioceptive engagement during their sessions.
Equipment used by the staff at Snowy’s includes a range of proprioceptive tracks. These provide therapists with a multi-function and adaptive tool that is appropriate for a wide range of conditions at different stages of recovery. It is designed to challenge our canine friends with different surfaces that respond in varying ways to each other and act differently from a solid floor; engaging their core muscles.
The basis of the equipment is four different densities of foam which compress to a greater or lesser degree. The lower the density of the foam, the softer it is and the greater amount of movement when loaded. The equipment is suitable for a range of exercises which encourage those to be more bodily aware by;
- Improving their balance
- Increasing flexibility
- Building strength
- Boosting motor skills
- Improving speed
- Improving accuracy
